Low with their ticket, chip to rear board; terminal blank corner restored and corner of pp. 18-19 torn with a few words lost, bookplate, occasional offsetting, virtually free from foxing, LMS bookplate laid-in; felt-lined slipcase. first printing of the first detective story. This was Poe's first original contribution to Graham's, appearing in the April 1841 issue (pages 166-179). The first volume of Graham's Magazine (the volume-numbering took into account the 10 previous volumes of The Casket and 7 of the Gentleman's Magazine).
